Winchester's Lunch with a Veteran

Winchester Elementary staff held its weekly Flag Friday, which was designed by staff to recognize student achievement as well as encourage student success. However, this Friday, Winchester staff and students used the assembly to honor military personnel in the community.

This was the third time Winchester staff held an event for veterans in the Winchester community. A couple weeks’ prior, students were sent home with a letter inviting veterans to attend. Five veterans, one staff member, and a student that represented their deployed father in the Navy were recognized at the Friday ceremony. Those that were able to attend were invited back to have lunch with their student; compliments of Principal Mark Delano.

Delano said the veterans that attended were happy for the recognition and it was wonderful to see the pride the students had in introducing their family member. He went on to say, “This event is a time for our students and staff to recognize and honor the brave men and women that serve, or have served, our country. We truly appreciate their service and look forward to holding many more “Lunch with a Veteran” celebrations in the future.”

Hemet Unified School District staff wants to recognize all of our veterans for the sacrifices they made and continue to make for our country; we thank you!
